Today, Faith & Freedom released the following statement from Tim Head, Faith & Freedom’s executive director, praising the enactment of the Federal Prison Oversight Act.
“Our nation’s prisons currently are plagued by understaffing, crumbling infrastructure, and chronic violence. That’s why we’ve worked with a bipartisan group of policymakers in the House and Senate to pass the Federal Prison Oversight Act which was signed by the White House into law today. This law will improve transparency and accountability at the Federal Bureau of Prisons, a deeply troubled government agency responsible for the lives and livelihoods of nearly 35,000 staff and over 155,000 incarcerated people. Increasing the transparency and accountability of our federal prisons is a smart-on-crime policy that can start America down the path towards a modern justice system that truly reflects who we are and what we value as a nation.”
Passage of the Federal Prison Oversight Act builds on Faith & Freedom Coalition’s earlier work to help pass President Trump’s First Step Act and the CARES Act to modernize our justice system, promote public safety, and rehabilitate lives.
