In case you missed, we wanted to share an op ed by Dr. Ralph Reed, founder and chairman of Faith & Freedom Coalition, that appeared in today’s Wall Street Journal.
When President Trump said he hoped to have the U.S. “opened up and just raring to go” by Easter, he tied the nation’s Covid-19 response to the ecclesiastical calendar. This was too much for some elites.
A New Yorker writer dismissed Mr. Trump’s promise as a “monumental act of Presidential flimflammery.” New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker called it “wildly irresponsible.” A bizarre New York Times op-ed suggested it was a dog whistle of “religious nationalism” celebrating “a heroic leader” who promises to rescue “the righteous from the damned.”
Others wished for churches to remain closed. When the governors of Ohio and Michigan exempted houses of worship from bans of most public gatherings on First Amendment grounds, Americans United for Separation of Church and State decried a “government preference of religion.”
