FAITH AND FREEDOM PRAISES PRESIDENT TRUMP FOR IMMIGRATION EXECUTIVE ACTION

Washington, DC – Faith & Freedom Coalition, which yesterday sent a letter to Capitol Hill urging passage of legislation to end the separation of families and reform America’s immigration system, today released a statement praising President Donald J. Trump for taking executive action to end family separation.

The full statement by Faith & Freedom founder and chairman Ralph Reed is below:

“On behalf of the 1.8 million members and supporters of Faith & Freedom, I want to express our profound gratitude to President Trump for taking executive action today to protect minor children and families by keeping them together while they await adjudication of their cases for illegally entering the country. President Trump’s action shows a big-hearted compassion and concern for children while still upholding his obligation to enforce the law and secure the border. We also want to commend the thousands of employees of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services who work tirelessly every day to protect our border, combat human and drug traffickers, and provide humane care for thousands of children who arrive at our borders.”

“We urge Congress to act now to permanently change the law to end the separation of families awaiting adjudication of their cases and reform a broken immigration system that does not reflect the values of our nation or the call to conscience of our faith. We also urge Congress to provide priority to the minor children and spouses of legal residents who are playing by the rules and seeking legal entry to our country, provide adequate funding for additional judges and immigration courts, resolve the legal status of young people under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program, and ensure funding for border security. While President Trump’s executive action is an important step, we need legislative action now to make these reforms permanent and ensure our immigration system reflects the values and beliefs of our people.”
